CASE STUDY
SIGNALADOC PHARMACY BENEFIT APP

At Bamsthetics, we specialize in creating intuitive, user-centered designs that transform complex processes into seamless digital experiences. Today, we’re excited to share the story designing SignalADoc Pharmacy App, a comprehensive app aimed at simplifying the way pharmacies manage prescriptions, health records, inventory, and general health services for their walk-in customers.

The Client

SignalADoc is a med-tech company that is creating platforms that bring health solutions to patients at their doorstep or vicinity.

Client Objectives

Project Goals

SignalADoc approached us with a clear vision: to create an app that would streamline the pharmacy experience for walk-in patients by simplifying prescription management, enabling seamless consultations with doctors right there in the pharmacy, and providing easy access to health services. Additionally, the app aimed to assist pharmacies in efficiently managing their product inventory and cash flow.
The primary goals were to enhance patient convenience, improve operational efficiency for pharmacies, ensure the security of sensitive health data, and create a user-friendly platform that seamlessly integrates healthcare and pharmacy services.

Target Audience

The SignalADoc Pharmacy Benefit App was designed specifically for pharmacies looking to streamline their operations and enhance customer service. It also caters to walk-in patients who need a convenient way to manage prescriptions, consult with doctors, and access health services. The app addresses the needs of pharmacies by improving inventory management, optimizing cash flow, and ensuring the secure handling of sensitive health data, all while providing a user-friendly experience for both pharmacy staff and patients.

User Persona

Our Design Process

Research Phase

We began by conducting extensive research, including user interviews with pharmacy owners and managers, a review of existing pharmacy apps, and consultations with healthcare professionals. This research highlighted key pain points, such as complicated prescription management systems, inventory management and self diagnosis.

Design Strategy

Our design strategy focused on creating a user-friendly, accessible, and secure app. We aimed to simplify the user journey, making it effortless for pharmacies to refill prescriptions, manage inventory, set reminders, help walk ins consult with doctors, and manage their health records—all within a single platform.

Visual Style

The goal was to create a user-friendly, visually appealing interface that would resonate with both pharmacy staff and customers in Nigeria.
Given the varying levels of tech-savviness among our target audience, we prioritized clarity and simplicity in our design. The app’s color scheme was chosen to be professional yet welcoming, with a focus on readability and ease of use. We selected a clean, modern design with intuitive icons and clear navigation paths, making it easy for users to find what they need without frustration.

Prototyping

We didn’t have time to start with low fidelity wireframes, so we jumped straight into high fidelity prototypes, bringing the designs to life. We incorporated feedback from pharmacists and healthcare professionals to fine-tune the app’s features, ensuring that the interface was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
For the pharmacy staff interface, we opted for a dashboard-style layout that presents critical information—such as inventory levels and sales figures—at a glance. This design helps pharmacists quickly assess their operations, allowing them to make informed decisions without getting lost in a complex interface.

During the prototyping phase, we also focused on security features, testing how sensitive health data would be handled and protected throughout the user journey.
Throughout the prototyping phase, we kept user feedback at the forefront, making adjustments to ensure that the app would not only meet functional requirements but also provide a satisfying and engaging user experience. The result is an app that is not only practical and secure but also visually aligned with the needs and expectations of its users.

Final Design

The final design of the SignalADoc Pharmacy App includes a clean, modern interface with intuitive navigation. The pharmacy dashboard provides real-time insights into inventory and cash flow with a streamlined layout for ease of use. For pharmacists, the app offers straightforward navigation for managing prescriptions, inventory, and booking consultations, ensuring a user-friendly experience. Enhanced with robust security features, the design prioritizes data protection while maintaining a modern, professional aesthetic. This approach ensures that the app is both functional and accessible, meeting the diverse needs of its user base.

Challenges and Solutions

A notable challenge was designing the inventory management system to handle the diverse forms in which drugs are packaged. Drugs may come as liquids in bottles, capsules in blister packs, or creams, making it difficult to accurately track stock levels for each type of packaging. This complexity could lead to inaccuracies in inventory management and potential disruptions in pharmacy operations.

To address this, we incorporated a flexible packaging type feature in the inventory management system. When adding new products, pharmacies can specify the various packaging types—such as bottles, blister packs, or tubes—along with their quantities. This approach allows pharmacies to accurately track stock levels for each packaging type, ensuring precise inventory management and reducing the risk of stock discrepancies.

Result and Impact

  • Enhanced Efficiency: Pharmacies reported improved operational efficiency with streamlined prescription management and inventory tracking.
  • Increased User Engagement: Patients found the app easy to use, leading to higher engagement with features like prescription refills and doctor consultations.
  • Positive Feedback: Both pharmacies and patients provided positive feedback, highlighting the app’s ease of use and reliability.
  • Market Position: SignalADoc has strengthened its position as a leading digital solution in the Nigerian pharmacy sector, setting a new standard for pharmacy management and patient care.
